Fun Food Facts Popcorn Facts Popcorn pops because water is stored in a small circle of soft starch in each kernel. As the kernel is heated, the water heats, the droplet of moister turns to steam and the steam builds up pressure until the kernel finally explodes to many times its original volume. Americans today consume 17.3 billion quarts of popped popcorn each year! The average American eats about 68 quarts! While the first breakfast cereal was made by adding sugar and milk to popped popcorn, a shortage of baking flours after World War II forced bread makers to substitute up to 25% of wheat flour with ground popped popcorn. Over the years, popcorn also has been used as an ingredient in pudding, candy, soup, salad and entrees. Popcorn’s nutritional value comes from the fact that, like other cereal grains, its primary function is to provide the body with heat and energy. Microwave popcorn is the same as other popcorn except the kernels are usually larger and the packaging is designed for maximum popability. Did you know that an ear of corn never has an odd number of rows? Some Native Americans used popcorn for jewelry. The average American eats 54 quarts of popcorn each year. “Corny or What??” One bushel of corn will sweeten more than 400 cans of pop. There are about 600 kernels on each ear of corn. Today, in Michigan, there are almost 4 million cherry trees which annually produce 150 to 200 pounds of tart cherries. Lettuce talk a little. Lettuce is a member of the sunflower family. Darker Green lettuce leaves are more nutritious than lighter green leaves. Americans eat about 30 pounds of lettuce every year. That’s about five times more than what we ate in the early 1900s. Later, if the fruit is to be mechanically harvested, a harvesting machine goes through the field and gently shakes each bush so only the ripe blueberries drop off. Blueberries are a good source of Vitamin C and fiber. EGG-cellent In the U.S. in 1998, hens produced 6,657,000,000 dozen eggs – that’s 6.657 billion dozen! After these eggs were laid, about two-thirds were sold in the shell and one third of them were broken – not by accident, but on purpose. Because after the eggs are broken out of their shells, they can be made into liquid, frozen, dried and specialty egg products. The egg shell may have as many as 17,000 tiny pores over its surface. Through them, the egg can absorb flavors and odors. Storing them in their cartons helps keep them fresh! Eggs age more in one day at room temperature than in one week in the refrigerator. Occasionally, a hen will produce double-yolked eggs throughout her egg-laying career. It is rare, but not unusual, for a young hen to produce an egg with no yolk at all. Natural chemicals from the bee’s head glands and the evaporation of the water from the nectar change the nectar into honey. In one day a honey bee can fly 12 miles and pollinate up to 10,000 flowers. Honeybee workers must visit 2 million flowers to make one pound of honey. Honey is one of the earliest forms of saccharine substances known to man. The purest of honey is from the honeycomb. Most honey that has been made up commercially has been thinned with added syrup. Did you know that honey has more calories than sugar? Honey has 64 calories, while granulated sugar has 46 calories per tablespoon! The ingredients in honey are water, pollen, fructose, glucose, organic acids, proteins and enzymes. It takes 50,000 bees to produce 500 pounds of honey in one year! Never give honey to children under one year of age. The nectar that the bees took from the flower may cause an allergic reaction. Go, Go, Go Bananas! There are over 500 different types of bananas. That means if you ate a different kind of banana everyday, it would take almost a year and a half to eat every one! Although generally regarded as a tree, this large tropical plant is really an herb. That means it does not have a woody trunk like a tree. The stalk is composed of leaf sheaths that overlap each other and grow from an underground stem called a rhizome. The banana plant can grow as high as 20 feet tall. That’s as big as a two-story house! Bananas are about 99.5% fat free. Bananas are a great source of potassium. Potassium helps build muscle power and keeps your body fluids in balance. Banana’s are most likely the first fruit ever to be grown on a farm. Great Green Forests An acre of trees can remove about 13 tons of dust and gases every year from the surrounding environment. Almost a third of the world’s total land area is covered by forests. Some tissue-making machines can produce as many as 6000 feet of toilet tissue every minute out of trees. About 1.5 million tons of ground cocoa beans from the tropical tree are used each year to make chocolate and cocoa products. That’s greater than the weight of more than 300,000 elephants! Every year in the United States each person uses the equivalent of one tree, 100 feet tall and 16 inches in diameter, to fulfill their wood and paper needs. Thirty to 40 gallons of sugar maple sap must be boiled down to make just one gallon of maple syrup. Lean and Green The name asparagus comes from the Greek language and means “sprout” or “shoot.” Asparagus is a member of the Lily family. Asparagus is related to onions, leeks, and garlic. America’s first large pasta factory was built in Brooklyn, New York in 1848 by a Frenchman who would spread out his spaghetti strands on the roof to dry in the sunshine. According to a Kraft Cheese Family study, America’s top family main dishes are spaghetti, 52%; grilled chicken, 50% and Pizza, 49%. Favorite side dishes are baked potato, salad and pasta. There are over 400 varieties of natural cheeses! America’s Bread Each American consumers, on average, 53 pounds of bread per year. Assuming a sandwich was eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it would take 168 days to eat the amount of bread produced from one bushel of wheat. A family of four could live for 10 years off the bread produced by one acre of wheat. One bushel of wheat will produce 73 one-pound loaves of bread. In 1997, Kansas’s wheat farmers produced enough wheat to make 36.5 billion loaves of bread, or enough to provide each person on earth with 6 loaves of bread. Pizza Perfect Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, or 350 slices per second. Each man, woman and child in America eats an average of 46 slices (23 pounds) of pizza a year. Pepperoni is America’s favorite topping (36 percent of all pizza orders we eat approximately 251,770,000 pounds a year! In America, anchovies always rank last on the list of favorite toppings. Pizza makers have tried virtually every type of food on pizzas, including peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs and mashed potatoes! There are approximately 61,269 pizzerias in the United States. Approximately 3 billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year. In Japan, the most popular topping for pizza at Domino’s pizza is Squid? Pick a Pepper The most popular sweet pepper in the United States is the bell pepper. Bell peppers are usually sold green, but they can also be red, purple or yellow. Most peppers belong to the Capsicum annuum species. As bell peppers mature, their color changes from green to red and they become sweeter. Chile peppers are hot. Dried chile pepper wreaths are called “Ristras” – a symbol of plenty and hope. Broccoli Buds We are eating 900% more broccoli than we did 20 years ago. In 1970, consumption of broccoli was only a half a pound per person. Today, the average person in the United States eats four and one half pounds a year. In the United States, broccoli was probably first grown by immigrants from Italy in home gardens in Brooklyn, New York. In 1923, a group of Italian vegetable farmers in Northern California started to grow broccoli commercially and in a few years they were shipping fresh broccoli to Boston and New York. California produces almost all the broccoli sold in the United States. The Food We Eat In 1996, each American consumed an average of 77 pounds more of commercially grown vegetables than in 1970, 63 pounds more grain products, 54 pounds more fruits, 32 pounds more poultry, 10 gallons more milk lower in fat than whole milk, 20.5 pounds less red meat, 73 fewer eggs, and 17 gallons less whole milk. It takes just 40 days for most Americans to earn enough money to pay for their food supply for the entire year. In comparison with the 129 days it takes the average American to earn enough money to pay federal, state and local taxes for the year. More than 96 billion pounds of edible “surplus” food is thrown away in the U.S. Each year. It is estimated that almost 27% of our food supply is wasted. Mazda, Multi Activity Vehicle (MAV).

Kalau selama ini Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris dan Suzuki Swift menjadi icon tunggangan para kawula muda Indonesia, nah kali ini Mazda dengan produk new releasenya, Mazda 2, wajib dipertimbangkan. Sedan hatchback ini hadir dalam timing yang tepat, saat konsumen di segmen itu butuh model alternatif. Meski baru tahun depan, tapi sosoknya sudah ditampilkan di pameran mobil internasional di JCC, pertengahan Juli lalu.

Berbicara soal tenaga, Mazda bermesin MZR dengan kapasitas 1.498 cc ini memang masih di bawah senior-seniornya yang memiliki power dikisaran 110 dk sampai 120 dk. Sementara Mazda 2 bermodalkan 103 dk, namun dia punya boost “Zoom-Zoom”. Semangat yang mengharuskan setiap Mazda terlihat kencang.

Ketika dijajal, slogan Zoom-Zoom terbukti. tenaga responsif, mantap dan lincah. Bahkan hentakan tenaga lebih dari cukup. Respon transmisi Activematic 4 tingkat percepatan, cukup pandai membaca kemauan pengemudi.

Tenaga boleh di bawah, tapi soal fitur kelengkapan setara dengan kompetitornya. Ada sepasang airbag, head unit yang terintegrasi dengan auxiliary input, hingga kunci tailgate elektrik.

Yang tak kalah menarik interiornya. Di sekujur kabin didominasi dengan unsur bulatan. Utamanya, desain konsol head unit yang gterintegrasi membentuk bulatan. Lucunya lagi, desain panel instrumennya bernuansa klasik.

Secara keseluruhan, akomodasi yang ditawarkan tidaklah berbeda jauh dengan sedan-sedan compact hatchback. Namun pada mazda 2 terdapat glovebox dengnan sekat untuk menjaga pernak-pernik tersimpan dengan rapi.

Soal harga, PT Mazda Motor Indonesia belum membocorkannya. Tapi dibandingkan dengan kompetitornya,harganya kisaran Rp 170 jutaan. Yang penasaran, silakan tunggu.

Dibandingkan dengan generasi sebelumnya, New Mazda 5 yang diluncurkan pertengahan Juni lalu hanya face lift saja. Kendati begitu, tampilannya kian manis bahkan ciri sebagai mobil berkategori MPV jika dipandang dari depan justru lebih kental sebagai sosok sedan sport ketimbang MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) atau pihak PT Mazda Mobil Indonesia (MMI) menjulukinya Multi Activity Vehicle (MAV).

Ini mungkin desain eksterior diperkaya dengan berbagai penyesuaian. Seperti gril depan dipadu dengan bonnet rendah, ketika berada di belakang kemudi, jarak pandang sangat luas. Bahkan kenyamanan mengemudi, meski menjajal New Mazda 5 berjarak sangat pendek (tidak lebih satu kilometer), toh kesan kenyamanan mengemudi sangat terasa. Bahkan suasana rileks pengemudi cukup terjaga.

Hal ini dikarenakan, saat kedua tangan memegang kemudi, tangan tidak cepat lelah lantaran kedua siku tertopang. Siku tangan kiri tertumpu di sandaran kursi, sedang siku kanan di sandaran pintu kanan. Ditambah lagi, transmisi otomatis dengan mesin berkapasitas 2.000 cc, tenaga awalnya cukup responsif. Dan pemindahan setiap gigi bisa dilakukan dengan mengangkat pedal gas sedikit saat rpm antara 2.200 sampai 2.400, sangat halus.

Sistem transmisi juga dilengkapi dengan SV-T (Sequential Valve Timing). Jadi pemindahan gigi dapat dilakukan melalui tongkat persneling. Jangan harap akselerasinya seperti transmisi manual, setiap kali menaikkan gigi persneling terjadi jedah beberapa detik bila dengan putaran mesin sedang.

Saat menjajal New Mazda 5, ada ciri khas Mazda yang hilang, yakni kelembutan rem. Mungkin ini dikarenakan Mazda genarasi sekarang yang menganut filosofi ZOOM-ZOOM. Artinya, sebagai kendaraan yang gesit dan responsif, tentu dibutuhkan penghenti laju yang baik. Untuk itu, keempat rodanya memakai sistem rem cakram. Sehingga ketika pedal ditekan cepat, penumpang akan merasa hentakan. Beda dengan sebelum generasi ZOOM-ZOOM, sekalipun pedal ditekan sedikit keras, tapi sebelum pada titik tekan maksimal rem sudah bekerja.

Kestabilan mobil memang belum terukur maksimal karena kecepatan mobil tidak lebih dari 40 km/jam, apalagi saat membelok harus berhenti dulu. Tapi dari segi dimensinya, New Mazda 5 paling kecil dibandingkan kompetitornya. Bandingkan dengan Mitsubishi Grandis GT yang baru dilaunching, tinggi Mazda 5 yang 1.615 mm masih tinggi Grandis 40 mm. Begitu juga panjangnya, Mazda 5 hanya 4.565 mm dengan ground clearence di bawah cukup rendah (di bawah Grandis GT 165 mm), makanya kestabilannya baik dan pantas disebut MPV bersosok sedan sport.

SSC Ultimate Aero, Mobil Tercepat Dunia

Dengan harga yang cukup merogoh kocek lebih dalam, $654,400 atau sekitar Rp.6,5 m, mobil tercepat tahun 2007 ini bisa anda dapatkan. Memang suatu harga yang cukup mahal, namun tidak terlalu mahal jika dibandingkan dengan Bugatti Veyron yang benar – benar ‘gila’ memasang high price (mobil termahal tahun 2007, SSC Ultimate Aero di urutan ketiga) hingga $1,192,057 atau sekitar Rp.11,8 m. Mobil sporty ga jaminan bisa menyajikan anda kepuasan melejit saat berkendara didalamnya. SSC Ultimate Aero memang pantas direkomendasikan untuk anda pecinta mobil laju. Kecepatan tertingginya yang hingga mencapai 273 mph+ (Bugatti Veyron hanya mampu mencapai 253 mph)dan mampu mencapai 0-60 dalam 2,7 detik. Sungguh mobil tercepat resmi yang keluar tahun lalu, hingga pertengahan tahun inipun belum ada yang mampu menjajalnya. Debutnya di selenggarakan di Wolfsburg Jerman pada pertengahan 2007 lalu pada kompetisi the world top-speed. Mesin twin turbo yang dasyat mampu ‘menerbangkannya’ hingga mencapai 1180 horsepower. Kekuatannya yang dasyat bukan berarti SSC Ultimate Aero tidak mampu melaju normal teratur hingga bahan bakarnya pada tekanan 91 oktan. Dan anda masih bisa mengendalikannya lebih lama pada garis merah penggunaan rpm. Diperkirakan mobil ini bakal hanya diluncurkan 25 unit saja, so kalo memang benar – benar tertarik yah cepat – cepat siapa tahu masih ada. Ga jamin lohhh.

Bugatti Veyron Mobil Termahal Di Dunia

Bugatti merupakan sebuah perusahaan mobil Perancis. Perusahaan ini didirikan oleh Ettore Bugatti yang dilahirkan di Italia, didirikan di kota Molsheim di region Alsace di Perancis. Produk mobil terkenal utamanya ialah Bugatti Veyron. Salah satu produknya adalah Veyron 16.4 (juga dikenal sebagai EB 16/4 Veyron) adalah sebuah mobil terkuat di dunia (pada 2005). Desain CS1 bener-benar baru di dunia, kami yang pertama main di kategori ini kata Mr. Miki Yamamoto, Presdir PT AHM. Riding positionnya mirip bebek, namun kesan yang tertangkap saat pandangan menyapu bagian depan, justru seperti berada di atas motor sport, mungkin karena desain bagasi depan sekilas seperti tangki di motor sport, padahal tangki sebenarnya berada di bawah jok seperti bebek kebanyakan. Meski kapasitas mesin hanya 125 cc dan jumlah katup di kepala silindernya cuma 2 buah, respons tenaga mulai putaran bawah hingga tengah terasa gede, akselerasi motor mampu melesat cepat waktu grip gas mulai dibuka, beda dengan bebek sekelas.

Saat diukur dengan Vericom VC3000, untuk mencapai jarak 0-201 meter, CS1 hanya butuh 12,28 detik (bobot pengemudi 77 kg). sayang kemampuan top speednya saat diuji terpisah hanya mentok 115 km/jam. mungkin karena putaran mesin sengaja di limit tidak terlalu tinggi lewat CDI. limiternya dipatok cuma sampai 11.300 rpm. untuk alasan safety kata Wedijanto, Technical service AHM.

Menurut Agus Bleduk pembalap road race nasional, handling CS1 patut diacungi jempol, dipakai menikung ekstrem sasis tak terasa lari-lari, bobot motor juga terasa enteng, sehingga manuver motor sangat lincah.

• 0-60 km/jam : 5,59 detik
• 0-80 km/jam : 8,48 detik
• 0-100 meter : 7,54 detik
• 0-201 meter : 12,28 detik
• Top speed : 115 km/jam
• Konsumsi BBM : 46,2 km/liter (kecepatan max tidak lebih dari 70 km/jam)

Pencatatan jarak super akurat
Sistem digital spidomoter CS1 ini memiliki keunggulan soal pencatatan jarak tempuh, serba digital dan meniadakan sistem jarum jelas Handy Hariko, senior manager technical service AHM. alat pengukur dengan lima digit angka, artinya jika sudah mencapai 99.999km akan kembali ke 0.

Bagasi kecil
Pengguna cs1 tidak dapat menaruh banyak barang,console box (c-box) yang terletak diatas underbone hanya cukup untuk menaruh jas hujan. ya namanya motor sport…

Sasis twin tube
Sasisnya yg bertipe twin tube ini lebih unggul timbang rangka yang bulat, oleh karena itu motor ini tetap stabil ketika diajak rebah.

Posisi setang
Setang yang tampak tinggi dengan posisi setang menekuk ke dalam, membuat pengendara dapat bergerak leluasa dan tidak mudah pegal.ketika diajak menikung sampai foot step depan menyentuh aspal motor ini tetap mantap.

Tenaga setara mega pro
Tenaga CS1 yang 125 cc mampu mendongkrak 12,66 dk. hampir setara honda mega pro yang 160 cc dengan tenaga 13,12 dk. sebagai pembanding lagi, berat CS1 hanya 114kg. dibandingkan dengan supra x 125 yang lebih enteng yaitu 102kg, CS1 tetap lebih unggul, coba saja gunakan rumus power to weight rasio atau DK dibagi bobot total. CS1 yaitu 12,66/114 = 0,111 sedang supra x125 yaitu 9,17/102 = 0,0899. wajar jika CS1 enteng dan bertenaga full lantaran power to weight rasio lebih besar, artinya tenaga motor sport tapi punya bobot bebek.

Kalaupun anda tidak bisa menikmati Honda RC212V, tunggangannya Dani Pedrosa atau Andrea Dovizioso (JiR Scot Honda RC212V), namun setidaknya anda sudah memilih produk sejenis dengannya (Honda maksudnya…).
